The government is championing and financially supporting the building of a fleet small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). This report, written for Friends of the Earth by Chris Gordon-Smith, examines whether we do or don't need SMRs to keep the lights on during periods of prolonged low renewable energy generation. It also looks at claims that these SMRs will produce low-cost electricity.
